ABOUT US

Clara and Josh have been together for over 15 years. They have a six year old daughter, Ahni, and two 4 year old sons, Bodhi and Maitri. They enjoy spending time in the mountains, reading, and having dance parties together.

CLARA, L.M.T., AYURVEDIC CONSULTANT
Clara has been a licensed massage therapist since 1996 and yoga instructor since 2000. For Clara, ayurvedic medicine became the bridge between these two disciplines. After 10 years of study and exploration, Clara was certified in ayurvedic consultation in 2012. Clara studies Sanscrit and yogic philosophy with Dr. Katayani Poole, yoga with Rod Stryker, and ayurveda with Patricia Hansen and Dr. Vasant Lad.

JOSH, M.Ed., L.M.T.
For over 15 years, Josh worked with students, parents, educators, schools, and nonprofits building avenues for meaningful student and parent involvement in schools and communities. Josh completed his master’s degree in education from the University of Denver in 2004. During this time, he also became licensed in Brain Gym® or movement-based learning. In 2004, Josh and Clara traveled to Thailand to study Thai Massage with Master Pichet Boonthume. Pichet inspired Josh to begin a meditation practice, which has led to a deep connection to Tibetan Buddhism. Josh completed his massage certification at Denver Integrated Massage School in 2011, where they emphasized Thai Massage in addition to table massage. Josh brings his complete presence to his massage sessions. In addition to being meditative and relaxing, Josh’s massages are strong and effective.

THAI MASSAGE

Thai Massage is a unique and powerful message therapy combining acupressure, gentle stretching, and applied yoga.

Thai Massage is one of the most ancient healing systems in the world. It is based on Chinese medical message, Tui Na, and the Ayurvedic traditions. It was founded 2,500 years ago by Dr. Jivika Kumarbaccha, a Tibetan medicine man. Dr. Kumarbaccha was a contemporary and friend of the Buddha and doctor to the King of India. For thousands of years, Thai Massage was passed down through the Buddhist monasteries in Thailand. It has only recently been open to study by westerners. We were fortunate to have studied in Thailand with Master Pinchet Bonthoome, one of the original teachers of the famous Old Medicine Hospital in Chiang Mai.

BENEFITS

  • Increased joint and muscle flexibility in joints

  • Corrects body alignment

  • Improves posture balance

  • Dissolves energy blockages

  • Improves athletic performance

WHAT TO EXPECT

Thai Massage is often described as passive yoga. Through a combination of joint manipulation, soft tissue massage, acupressure, and stretching, it is a rhythmic and harmonious sequence of flowing movements. The practitioner uses his/her knees, hands, elbows and body weight to stimulate the energy lines. By applying pressure along sen (energy) lines, Thai Massage helps remove physical and energetic blocks in the body. As blocks along the sen lines release, we become more relaxed, energized and free from stiffness and pain. Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing as you will stay fully clothed during the massage.

GROUP SESSIONS

Get the most out of your yoga practice in a small group that has similar goals and needs. Gather a group of co-workers, family, or friends or contact me to join an already formed group.

A BREIF HISTORY

The whole concept of a yoga class is relatively new to the history of the practice. For centuries yoga was taught one-on-one. Allowing the student to quickly achieve changes and enabling the teacher to assess the mental, emotional and physical needs of the student. My teachers, Rod Stryker, Dr. Katayani Pool, and Patricia Hanson, all emphasize shaping a personalized yoga experience.

BENEFITS

Everyone can benefit from Yoga, but how do you know when you should seek out private instruction? Ask yourself…

  • Are you new to yoga, and need some help getting started?

  • Are you at a plateau in your yoga practice, and feeling the need for individual attention to progress?

  • Are you recovering from an injury or illness?

  • Are you interested in developing a personalized home practice to continue making rapid progress?

  • Do you get distracted or competitive in yoga class?

  • Do you enjoy personalized attention, adjustments and bodywork?

However, you don’t need a reason beyond the simple desire to practice yoga as it was originally practiced: as a personal, unique experience for your body and mind.

Movement Matters integrates movement-based learning into schools, organizations, and private settings so that individuals and groups can fully bring their strengths and talents to any particular situation. Josh's background in education and organizational development enables Josh to work with children, teens, and adults in a variety of settings.

EDUCATIONAL KINESIOLOGY

Movement-based learning or Educational Kinesiology (Edu-K) is a system that uses movement to draw out innate potential. Edu-K demonstrates that, when neuropathways for movement are fired, they activate and connect the whole brain in the synergistic way necessary for growth. Edu-K has been introduced in homes, businesses, athletic settings, and places of learning in more than eighty countries on all seven continents.

TESTIMONIALS

Josh Lazaroff presented four energetic, hands-on Brain Gym presentations to 156 freshman and sophomores the week before 2012 TCAP at CEC Middle College of Denver. I am happy to state that I observed many students voluntarily utilizing the new techniques both before and during testing. In addition, students took time during midsession snack break to practice their techniques in groups and pump themselves up for the second half of the test. Josh clearly explains the benefits of these brain calisthenics and he makes it fun to utilize the techniques. I give Josh an “Advanced” on his ability to help students understand, control and optimize their learning through Brain Gym, regardless of the event.

The results of his presentation include:

Overall, an average of 84% of the participants agreed and strongly agreed to the 4 questions below:

  • I have a better understanding of the relationship of movement to learning

  • I understand what happens to the Brain/Body when it is under stress and how to notice when I'm under stress

  • I feel that the Brain Gym® activities can help me in school and life in general

  • This information will help me be more self-directed in my learning

Most notable were some of the participant comments:

  • “From this presentation, I gained ways to wake myself up and jumpstart my thinking to help me with things like tests and individual classwork.”

  • “I gained so much from this entire presentation. I now know what kind of exercises to do when I’m under stress and they are very helpful.”

  • “From this activity, I learned how to get my brain working and focus myself so that I can relax and do my best.”

  • “I learned that under stress your eyes get dilated. I think that happens to me when I’m under stress.”

Please give Josh a call if you want to empower your student to excel. Your students will thank you.

My son and I have been doing Brain Gym exercises together and separately with Josh for over six months now. Without divulging too much about our background, let me say that our ability to communicate and understand each other was less than ideal. My son and I had been seeing a therapist for the better part of a year with little progress and often increased frustration. Josh moderated a safe and open place where we could share our thoughts and fears at their most basic level. He's given us a set of tools and exercises to help us deconstruct our problems and find solutions that work for both of us.

Michael, Denver

I had the privilege of working with Josh Lazaroff earlier this year on several youth focus groups and one adult focus group for the Bridging the Gap program. Bridging the Gap supports youth ages 14-24 aging out of the foster care system. The purpose of our focus groups was to hear from youth in transition what gaps and barriers to services they were encountering in the community as they move toward independence. One of the most beneficial components of this process was Josh’s ability to introduce the use of movement into these groups. By creating an environment in which youth moved around to respond to questions and participated in Brain Gym® exercises, a much richer dialogue took place than in a typical group where participants are stationary.

Josh has exceptional facilitation skills and connected easily and effectively with both our youth and adult participants. I feel strongly that the creative techniques that Josh is implementing in his work would support organizations interested in strategic planning and other meeting settings. I would be happy to speak to Josh’s work further if you have additional questions.

Sincerely,

I highly recommend Josh Lazaroff. He has been working with me on my balance issues. I tilt when I walk and have dizziness. The work that we did together and the exercises that Josh gave me have really helped me. I continue to notice improvements over time. I’ve gone from walking 2 miles a day to 4 miles a day.

I also had the pleasure of working with Josh for Thai Massage. He was able to incorporate my balance issues into the massage and I have greatly benefited from that also.

I am 81 years old and really appreciate the patience Josh has shown me. He really listens to what I have to say. He is also able to ask the right questions that allow me to fully convey what I am trying to get across.

I enjoy my time with Josh and would recommend him highly.

At Project VOYCE, Josh taught all the students some Brain Gym® exercises. I thought the exercises were great and would help me in rifle marksmanship, so I asked him to teach me some more. I have since continued to practice the exercises, which I believe helped me to place 4th in the state in my category and receive a full ride scholarship to West Point Military Academy. Before my arrival to West Point, I did a private session with Josh that helped me calmly adjust to West Point and Basic Training.

Lutheran Family Services Rocky Mountains licenses and supervises homes to care for children in foster care. The foster parents are required to complete numerous hours of ongoing training each year. One of the biggest challenges in this effort is to find meaningful, useful and cost-effective training options.

We were very happy to be able to have Josh present the Brain Gym® materials at one of our foster parent support groups. He brought a great deal of experience and knowledge to share, as well as concrete actions and exercises to employ, and materials for parents to refer to at home. Josh was also able to address individual concerns and help brainstorm possible solutions with the foster parents. Based on the feedback from our foster families that attended the training, we would definitely have Josh back again.

JOSH LAZAROFF

Josh’s life work has revolved around his passion for understanding how people learn with their whole bodies and improving our education system based on this understanding. For over 15 years, Josh has worked with students, parents, educators, schools, and nonprofits building avenues for meaningful student and parent involvement in schools and communities. Josh completed his master’s degree in education from the University of Denver in 2004. During this time, Josh became licensed in Brain Gym® or educational kinesiology and Thai Yoga massage.

Josh has utilized movement-based education to help children and adults improve their focus, motivation, and academic and physical skills. Josh also works with small and large groups to create dynamic and productive strategic planning sessions, focus groups, and collaborations. Married for over 10 years and a father of three, Josh enjoys being with his family (especially outdoors), basketball, yoga, and meditation. Josh believes that educational kinesiology is an avenue to understanding ourselves, which enables us to be truly self-directed in our learning and our lives.

EDUCATIONAL KINESIOLOGY: TRUE LEARNING IS NOT JUST MENTAL

The brain is informed by movement and the senses; therefore, true learning results from highly charged and instantaneous sensorimotor events- moments of neural reorganization by which one is freed to think in new ways. Whole brain development is integrally related to movement and the physical skills of learning.

A BREIF HISTORY

Developmental experts have known more than 80 years that physical movement activates the brain and enhances learning. In the 1970’s, educational therapist, Dr. Paul Dennison, began drawing from and building on this knowledge to develop the field of Educational Kinesiology. Edu-K was developed through extensive study and insight drawn from kinesiology, developmental optometry, acupuncture, occupational therapy, dance, and sensory integration.

Edu-K first achieved success in California’s Valley Remedial Group learning centers. Edu-K helped many children and adults who had been identified as dyslexic, ADD, hyperactive, or learning disabled to discover and develop their true potential. Subsequent studies published in North America, Germany, Australia, and elsewhere confirmed that Edu-K produced measurable gains in physical skills, learning skills, and academic performance. Edu-K presents the hypothesis, consistent with the latest findings in neuroscience, that new neural pathways grow when we move with intention.

WHEN CAN YOU APPLY EDUCATIONAL KINESIOLOGY?

  • SELF-REGULATION
    noticing, self-awareness, self-directed choice making

  • PHYSICAL SKILLS OF LEARNING
auditory discernment, symbol recognition, visual flexibility, hand-eye coordination, which in turn leads to improved reading, writing, speaking, and numerical skills.

  • ABILITY TO FOCUS AND PARTICIPATE
management of stress and performance anxiety, concentration, memory, communication skills, athletic and work performance.

Meeting Design and Facilitation

GET MOVING

A individual session is an excellent opportunity to learn about yourself and gain tools to help you grow in a safe and relaxed setting. A private session typically lasts sixty to seventy-five minutes and starts with you choosing a goal: something you want to accomplish.

EXAMPLE GOALS

  • To easily organize and write down my ideas

  • To read faster and remember what I read

  • To be calm and confident in front of an audience or in an interview

  • To communicate well with family, friends and colleagues

  • To perform an athletic skill with more accuracy

WHAT TO EXPECT?

We will then investigate how well communication is taking place between the back brain and the front brain, the left and right hemispheres, and the midbrain. After this, I will guide you through a process of choosing and performing activities that will best meet your needs. These activities, which range from small movements of your eyes or hands to easy whole-body movements, allow you to access the skills, abilities, and mental attitudes you will need to accomplish your goal. The Edu-K process is complete when you feel and demonstrate improvements in your goal-related learning and performance abilities.

WHEN CAN YOU APPLY EDUCATIONAL KINESIOLOGY?

  • School, Work, Sports, Home, Play

  • When you feel stuck

  • Supports ability to focus or get organized

  • Reversing letters or numbers

  • Reading challenges

REASONS FOR TRAINING

MEETINGS WITH MOVEMENT

In addition to integrating movement activities into my facilitation process, I’ve utilized the facilitation techniques below to develop dynamic interactions that produce results. I have experience designing and facilitating strategic planning sessions, focus groups, and large collaborative meetings.

OPEN SPACE TECHNOLOGY
Opens Space Technology is a method of organizing meetings (immediately) and leading movements (longer term) so that ordinary people can accomplish extraordinary things, in record time.

WORLD CAFÉ
Based on the understanding that conversation is the core process that drives personal, business, and organizational life, the World Café is more than a method, a process, or technique - it's a way of thinking and being together that draws out all of the knowledge and experience at the table.

PROBLEM POSING THEATER
A dynamic and interactive form of participatory theater, Problem Posing Theater enables a group to objective an issue or problem in a school or organizational culture and work to solve the issue in real time.
